Chelsea back in the race for AS Roma duo as new contract talks stall

Chelsea are said to be back in the race for highly rated AS Roma duo Radja Nainggolan and Kostas Manolas. The Blues’ boss Antonio Conte is a long time admirer of both players, so much so he made several attempts to sign them last summer, but all his efforts were in vain.

Manolas is also on Manchester United’s shopping list and the Red Devils also made a bid to sign the Greek International last summer. The 25-year-old centre back’s contract runs until 2019. He has requested a new € 3 million-a-year salary, but the giallorossi are only open to offer € 2.5 million a year maximum. According to today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, negotiation are stalling and Chelsea could make the most of the situation, offering the highly rated centre back an escape from the Olimpico either in January or at the end of the season.

Nainggolan signed a new contract last year, extending his stay at the Olimpico until 2020. The Belgian International, however, was promised a pay rise too with his wages that should have been raised to € 5 million a year. AS Roma have failed to make contact with the player’s entourage so far and both him and his teammates Manolas are reportedly ‘annoyed’ by the club’s silence.

Chelsea are keeping a close eye on both stars, after last summer’s rejected offers, the Blues are back in the race for Radja Nainggolan and Kostas Manolas.
