Chelsea: Here's the replacement for Begovic

Chelsea bid farewell to Asmir Begovic on Tuesday and have moved quickly to find his successor and the man to be the club’s new number two goalkeeper behind Thibaut Courtois. According to Sunsport today, the player at the top of the list is current Paris Saint-Germain custodian Alphonse Areola.

The 24-year-old is currently back-up to German shot-stopper Kevin Trapp in the French capital despite starting 15 games for the club last season. The journal understands that the player is looking for a fresh challenge and a move across the English Channel to Stamford Bridge could be the right one for the French international.

Chelsea still has Portuguese custodian Eduardo but having himself signed a one-year extension, is happy to remain as the club’s number three choice between the posts. Now that Bosnian international Begovic has left for Bournemouth in a deal worth £10M, a vacancy has become available and boss Antonio Conte wants Areola to fill it.
