Chelsea to pip Man United for €80m Real star

Chelsea are in pole position to snag James Rodriguez, according to the latest AS report.

Long linked to Manchester United, the former Monaco star is said to be the subject of an 80 million offer, which is what the Galacticos originally paid for him back in 2014.

Though a star at the 2014 World Cup and a successful debutant at Real Madrid - 13 goals in his maiden Liga season - the Colombian star has since fallen down the depth chart, leading him to seek a move elsewhere.

Speaking to Spanish radio recently, Rodriguez’ step-father said that he wanted the 25-year-old to play regularly.

“I want to see my son play football,” Juan Carlos Restrepo told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

“If it was up to me, I’d tell him to look for a club where he can play.

“I don’t think that James has been short on support at Real, I think he has the fans’ affection, but a talent like his needs to be on the football pitch”.

The idea for Real Madrid is that selling both Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez will allow them to finance a major splurge for Monaco sensation (another one!) Kylian M’Bappe.
