De Laurentiis labels Higuain a 'traitor and an ingrate'

Aurelio De Laurentiis hasn't mince his words with regards to Gonzalo Higuain's move to Juventus. The former Napoli superstar has been accused of 'betraying' his former club, and of being 'ungrateful', too.

“Some have said that talking of betrayal is excessive, but I think it's appropriate, with some ingratitude on the side, too” De Laurentiis told the Corriere dello Sport.

“The disappointment wore off within half an hour of Juventus telling us that they would respect Gonzalo's release clause. We understood that we may need to look for someone as early as Higuain's agent's first declarations to the press. Then again, we didn't seriously think that he'd leave, that he'd suddenly wipe away his three-year stay in Naples”.

Asked about whether Inter striker Mauro Icardi would be Napoli's “dream man”, De Laurentiis answered that
“We'd like [for Icardi] to be that man. I don't like to talk about things that should be private, as much as possible. But the numbers say that Icardi is an extraordinary striker : we'd nearly bought him before he joined Inter. Certain flames never fully go out...”
