Daniele De Rossi has celebrated his 500th Roma appearance scoring the goal that secured Roma’s victory over relegation candidates Empoli.

The 32 year old scored the 52nd goal of his career heading a perfect Miralem Pjanic’s corner kick after that the Bosnia and Herzegovina International has opened the account just a few minutes before with a magnificent free-kick, the Real Madrid’s target specialty. Mohammed Salah added a third one following Daniele De Rossi’s goal.

Capitan Futuro is a product of the club’s academy. He made his debut  in a 2001 Champions League game against Anderlecht, when Fabio Capello was in charge of the club. Since then, the holding midfielder has become a true leader inside the Roma’s dressing room as well as the player who has played more games with the club’s shirt after the captain Francesco Totti.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United target is also the most prolific Italy International midfielder. Just like his mentor Francesco Totti he could have left his favorite club as well as the city where he grew up to join any European side which could have provide him with more trophies and personal honors.

Despite having failed to win one single Serie A title with the club, De Rossi has always preferred to link his name with the Giallorossi and when Francesco Totti will decide to hang up his boots, De Rossi will finally become the team’s captain and not only the Future team’s leader.

Talking to the Italian TV channel Mediaset Premium after the game, De Rossi boosted Roma’s Serie A title ambitions.

“I am sure we are strong enough to be among the Serie A contenders, but that’s not enough to win the title. The club won the last Scudetto so many years ago and winning the title here would be a dream to me and to the whole city. It was nothing easy to beat Empoli. Winning today was vital for our title ambitions.”
