Exclusive Juventus: here’s Rodrigo Bentancur's real price-tag

Rodrigo Bentancur is set to complete a move to Juventus as the Old Lady has decided to activate her first-option clause which they had agreed with Boca Juniors when the Serie A side sold Carlos Tevez to the Argentinean club.

Calciomercato.com’ Fabrizio Romano has exclusively interviewed Cesar Luis Merlo, an Argentinean journalist working for TyC Sports who’s very reliable, especially when it comes to knowing stuff related to Boca Juniors.

Why some Boca Juniors fans are happy to see Bentancur leaving?
“Because he’s yet to prove his qualities. He has never been playing three successive games. He’s no consistency yet and not enough game time. Boca Juniors fans, however, are very demanding. Do not forget that he’s only 19-year-old. He has great technical skills. In a way, he’s similar to Pastore.”

Do you know how much Juventus will pay for his services?
“As far as I know, Juventus are going to pay € 7.5 million net of taxes. The official statement reported a fee of € 9 million as this fee includes taxes.”

Are Juventus investing too much money then?
“It is a gamble, that’s for sure. Bentancur has not justified that price-tag so far, but potentially, it can be a great deal. He can improve either at Juventus or on loan. In my opinion he’s still not ready for a top club like Juventus, but has the potential to become a star in the future.”

Which is the best position in the pitch for him?
“Yet again, he has yet to impress in a particular role. He can be deployed as a playmaker, but the best position for him is probably attacking midfield. He has a good shot and vision, though he need to improve in terms of rhythm.”

What about Cubas? Juventus also have an option to sign him
“He never plays for Boca either and there are many midfielders playing over him. I don’t see him plying for Juventus in the future, I am sorry to say that.”
