Exclusive: Milan must get a refund from FIFA for Montolivo’s injury

Following Riccardo Montolivo’s injury while on International duty with Italy national team, calciomercato.com has interviewed the lawyer and players’ agent Jean-Cristophe Cataliotti to ask him whether AC Milan must get a refund for their midfielder’s injury.

    “Definitely yes”, says Mr. Cataliotti.

“If a player picks a up an injury while playing for his national tea, the club must get a refund from FIFA. This rule was approved on the 27th of September 2012 during a meeting held in Zurich. The FIFA Club Protection rule was also established on the same date.”

“The law states that if a player picks up an injury during an International game with his national team, the club must get a refund as the player is temporarily but totally ineligible to play any game with the club.”

“FIFA is obliged to redeem the basic salary from the twenty-ninth day of the accident until the thirty-sixth and for a total amount not exceeding € 7.5 million.”

“However, if the player returns to action is one month time, FIFA are not obliged to give a refund to the club.”
