EXCLUSIVE: Milan need to turn to transfer market to fix Bologna mess

Milan's embarassing 1-0 defeat to Bologna raises a number of issues, and confirms that Milan are in crisis: whether it is the fans protesting, the tension in the dressing room, or the team looking less convincing than before... it's a vicious circle.

One of the biggest problems, however, is that the midfield has very little personality, despite the amount of chances created against the Felsinei. Almost all of them owe more to individuals (Bonaventura and Niang especially) or work on the wings - Honda and Abate worked very hard, especially in the first half.

The middle of the park, however, gave them almost nothingoffensively: whilst Riccardo Montolivo is very useful in the defensive phase, Andrea Bertolacci is the new "Where's Wally?", his absence damaging the team and allowing Bologna to wreak havoc in Milan's half almost undisturbed in the last 15 minutes of play.

The taem has very little balance to speak of, a problem already seen agaisnt Frosinone, especially in the first half. Mihajlovic doesn't have midfielders who can contribute to both phases.

This debacle underlines just how necessary intervening on the transfer market is for the Rossoneri, not only on the right [where Alessio Cerci is now training separately from the rest of the team], but also in the middle of the park.

Though the fans are begging for joga bonito, Milan desperately need a player who brings quantity, rather than quality to the midfield. Forget a regista, Milan need someone who can help both in attack and defence.

Fellaini could help in attack, whilst former Spurs reject Etienne Capoue is more useful when it comes to breaking up play. Juventus target Ever Banega, on the other hand, is very gifted in building up play, whilst Fellaini's Diables Rouges team-mate can do it all.

Problem is, he's prohibitively expensive, and Zenit are actually involved in a Champions League campaign, which makes signing him a near-impossible task.

One thing is certain: in order not to compromise their current campaign, Milan need to make a move in the market now.
