EXCLUSIVE Milan owe everything to Vincenzo Montella

Milan have started this season so well that they compare positively to a Scudetto-winning team.

To wit, the last time the Rossoneri won the league, they’d also begun the season by obtaining sixteen points in their first eight fixtures, an achievement that is a credit to Coach Max Allegri and all his staff.

What makes this turnaround so surprising is that nine key first team members have remained unchanged, further underlining just how well Vincenzo Montella has focussed on the mental aspect, with the turning point being the Matchday 3 defeat to Udinese.

Last season, Milan often came unstuck in difficult moments. This year, they responded to their home loss to Udinese by winning four games and drawing one,

Now level with Roma, the Rossoneri have really undergone quite the transformation: they shoot from long range (just watch last night’s goals for confirmation!) and generally appear to be more liberated on the pitch, scoring six goals more than last season and conceding three goals less.

The most unexpected players have turned out to be pillars, too: Gabriel Paletta is now Alessio Romagnoli’s veteran partner and stabilizing influence, whilst Spaniard Suso also benefitted from Montella’s strong backing, and has played very well.

Moreover, this Milan side boasts 8 Italians, including the five Under-23s who started against Chievo last night. Montella has cleverly played the likes of Manuel Locatelli and Davide Calabria without risking any burnout, and has also shown flexibility in accepting the presence of a defensive midfielder, a position he normally doesn’t have time for.

This year, Juraj Kucka has been one of the best, a dynamic presence in the middle who is becoming one of Milan’s most promising players.

Rossoneri fans can dare to dream. And it’s all thanks for their Coach.
