Exclusive: the figures behind Bentancur’s Juventus switch

Rodrigo Bentancur will join Juventus in the January transfer window. The Old Lady has a first-option clause to sign the Uruguayan midfielder that was snatched two years ago, when the Serie A giants sold Carlos Tevez to the Argentinean club for free.

How much will Bentancur really cost Juventus? Our transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano has all the answers you need.

First of all, Boca Junior’s president Angelici insists that Juventus will pay € 7.5 million for the 50% of the player’s economic rights, but this can’t simply happen as this kind of operation are not legal in Italy, as a club can’t simply buy the 50% of a player’s economic rights.

Juventus will activate a € 9 million option to buy and Boca will cash in € 7.5 million net of tax. An agreement has been found already, but Juventus still need to pay the other half of the player’s economic rights. Angelici will be in Turin after the 11th of November to finalize the deal, one option for the Serie A giants could be to sign the player on loan with option to buy or Marotta could decide to sign the player on a permanent deal adding a sell-on clause for Boca Juniors.

Once Bentancur arrives in Italy, Juventus might decide to send him on loan to another Italian club to let the player get some Serie A experience.
