FOCUS: Roma won't sign Ibra, while van der Wiel is about to join

AS Roma’s plans for the next transfer market campaign are quite clear: selling those players who are no longer part of Spalletti’s project and obtain the amount needed to sign a top player. As outlined by the Corriere dello Sport, this player won’t be Zlatan Ibrahimovic: by selling Dzeko, Ljajic, Doumbia and Iturbe, the giallorossi could obtain about €40 million, which is the amount earned by the Swedish strikers in two years.

Ibra won’t then join the giallorossi, even because their president James Pallotta wants to invest on players whom he can later sell for a higher amount.

On the other hand, the Roman club has a concrete chance to sign another player who will leave PSG as a free agent: the 28-year-old right back Gregory van der Wiel has already contacted his compatriot Kevin Strootman, and could accept to reduce his €3,5m salary to move to Rome. The former Ajax man could sign a three-year deal and earn €2,5m per season. In that case, Roma would renounce to Martin Caceres.
