FOCUS: teenager Pellegrini charms Old Lady

Lorenzo Pellegrini’s recent performances have seen the Sassuolo starlet attract the interest of a host of European giants including Italian Champions Juventus.

The 19 year-old midfielder rose through the Roma youth ranks where he was nicknamed the ‘new De Rossi’ for his likeness to the Italy great and made his Serie A debut for the Giallorossi in March 2015. That summer however the capital club sold the promising midfielder to Sassuolo for a fee of 1.25 million euros (although there are reports Roma have a buy-back option) where he has gone from strength to strength.

Under the guidance of Eusebio Di Francesco, the Italian has made 17 appearances netting twice, the last of which proved to be the winner in the last round at home to Hellas Verona. Technically gifted and physically strong, the central midfielder’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed with Juventus keeping a watchful eye on the teenager.

The Turin giants are no strangers to hoovering-up the best Italian talents, as demonstrated by the capture of Daniele Rugani last summer and they may well do the same in the near future in order to bolster their midfield options. What’s more, Juventus are on excellent terms with Sassuolo and just last summer brought  ex-Neroverdi hitman Simone Zaza to Turin.

For the moment at least his future appears to be with Sassuolo, but if he can fulfil his promise as the ‘next De Rossi’ then it won’t be long before Juve and others come knocking on his door.
