Former Dortmund boss set to become a Saint

Respected French journalist Thierry Marchand claims that former Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel is set to become the new boss of Southampton replacing Claude Puel. Speaking on L’Equipe du Soir TV and reported in this morning's Express, Marchand explained that the man who resigned from the Bundesliga giants just 72 hours after guiding them to a German Cup triumph, is in “pole-position” to replace the Frenchman on the south-coast.

Puel has two years remaining on his current deal at St Mary’s but after a disappointing end to last season, club chiefs are ready to make a change at the helm and Tuchel, who was a former assistant to Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund before taking over team affairs, is believed to be the man they want.

Tuchel’s relationship with his bosses at Signal Iduna Park was turbulent to say the least and he was not always first choice with the clubs fanatical supporters either. Despite this, he’s respected around Europe as one of the top young coaches and his immediate future may now be in the Premier League.
