Former team-mate: Benzema really wants to play for Les Bleus

Karim Benzema wants to return to play for France, Samir Nasri has revealed to Marca.

The Real Madrid star retired from international duty after a number of spats with management, as well as his involvement in a seedy blackmail case regarding team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.

Nasri himself has been in exile from Les Blues since 2013, and has struggled to get back into Coach Didier Deschamps’ graces.

"I feel sorry for Karim because he really wants to come back," he said in a recent interview.

"It has been nine or 10 years that he has been starring in Madrid, there is a moment when you must recognise someone's talent."

Nasri’s criticisms have a point to them: seeing as Les Bleus have one of international football’s most talented squads, but have struggled to score of late, even drawing 0-0 with Luxembourg.

“It is stupid to not use a player like Benzema, you could have an attack with Karim, Mbappe, Griezmann and Dembele, it would be fantastic."
