How a French tourist accidentally sparked terror scare outside Fiorentina stadium ahead of Atalanta clash

A French tourist accidentally sparked terror scare outside Florence’s Artemio Franchi stadium yesterday ahead of the kick off of Serie A clash Fiorentina-Atalanta as he parked his car in a forbidden area, meters outside the stadium’s main entrance.

The Frenchman parked his car with a French registration plate just outside the main gates of the ‘tribuna centrale’ causing a bomb threat alarm as authorities did not manage to find the car’s owner anywhere around the stadium’s area.

Fearing an imminent car bomb attack, bomb disposal experts rushed to the spot and stadium’s gates remained closed for several minutes.

The tourist eventually turned up to pick up his car finding policemen and artificers close to his vehicle, trying to figure out any possible threat for fans which were about to enter the stadium. The French tourist got fined before leaving the spot.

A similar event happened in Paris a few months ago when a car without registration plate was parked meters outside Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral with five gas cylinders in it. Several women believed to be part of an active cell in French were charged over the failed terror attack last September.
