Furious Icardi: 'People in Argentina are trying to drag my name through the mud'

Inter superstar Mauro Icardi has hit back at his critics, claiming that there are many in Argentina who are 'trying to drag my name through the mud".

"I've been here for three years, and Italians see me as newsworthy for what I do on the pitch" he told La Naccion "There used to be a lot of talk about my love story, but that's all over now.

"In Argentina, on the other hand, they just try to drag my name through the mud, people want to talk s**t about me".

He then reacted angrily to Argentina Coach Gerardo Martino's recent declarations about him, the Seleccion manager claiming that Icardi had to focus on what was going on on the pitch, not off it.

"The Monday papers talk about me because I score, not because of my relationship with Wanda. Everyone here, from my team-mates to the cooks, is wondering why I don't play for Argentina. I can be good, average or awful, but at least I score and that's what matters.

"I always answer 'we'll see', but when they insist I don't know what to say to them".

Icardi did admit that the Albiceleste is very, very rich in attack, and that competition is rather stiff:

"We have the best attack in the world, besides me we have one or two excellent players: Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero. The others, like Paulo Dybala, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Angel Di Maria are fake names.

"It'll be difficult for Argentina to ever boast such a strong attack ever again".
