Galliani on Tevez: ‘We were so close’

The transfer market saga of the year is finally over: Carlos Tevez will not join Milan.

It has been an extremely busy day at both ends with an offer from the Rossoneri which was almost accepted by Manchester City. But ultimately the English outfit refused the conditions proposed by the Rossoneri which responded by making official the signing of Maxi Lopez from Catania.

“We were so close, perhaps we will talk about it again,” Vice-President Adriano Galliani told Milan Channel.

“Still we have a good relationship with City and these negotiations didn’t affect it. I spoke for hours with their President, we were so close to complete the deal but I gave my word to Catania and Maxi. He is a strong player, ready for us.

“Our misunderstandings with City were solved. The transfer window will open up again very soon,” added Galliani.

“Maybe we will only stay few months separated from Tevez: I did my best, this day was really tough for me but we couldn’t have done more.

“It is just fair now that I stop talking about Tevez because he is a City player. It was all sorted for his arrival in Milan but then something changed.

"I want to thank Carlos who kept his word until the very last. He was fantastic but we also kept our word by waiting until this Friday as promised,” concluded the Rossoneri Vice-President.
