EXCLUSIVE: Giggs to CM 'I will renew with Man Utd again'

    • Salvatore Siviero

Ryan Giggs has won the Premier League 12 times, 4 FA Cups, 8 Community Shields, 3 Football League Cups, 2 UEFA Champions League, 1 European Supercup, 1 Intercontinental Cup and 1 World cup for clubs. Many victories, but one shirt: Manchester United. Calciomercato.com esclusively interviewed him minutes before he was awarded the Golden Foot 2011 by the Prince Albert of Monaco.

How do you feel being given such an important award?
“I am very happy because I was voted by the people on the Internet. After many years, it is really great to know that many fans are following me around the world. I am honored to get this award from the hands or Prince Albert.”

Manchester United is the most popular club in the world. How is the team?
“We are normal people who play football and follow the rules.”

Rules set and controlled by Sir Alex?
“Yes, but he collaborates with the senior players. We are the example for the youngest.”

What's Sir Alex like in reality?
“He's a great person, always the first to arrive in the morning, always available for us. I have a fantastic relationship with him. I have a 1-year contract but it's just enough for me to sit with him a few minutes and renew it.”

Are you renewing your contract this year?

“Yes, I think so. I want to play for my team. After Christmas I'll meet with Sir Alex and talk about it.”

Have you ever thought about playing in Serie A?

“Not really. There were some rumors in 2003 about Inter's interest, but nothing concrete”

What do you think of Italian football?
“I grew up watching Sacchi's AC Milan, I admired champions like Gullit, Van Basten, and more recently Figo. Today, I do like Napoli, they have a great counter attack. And I like the idea that they'll beat Manchester City!”

What do you think of Balotelli?

“He's really good but also a bit strange. He's been fined many times and the fans, Man City's included, do not really like him, but he's a talent for sure.”

Will the Champions League final be Manchester United against Barcellona again?
“I hope so. We are working to win the cup. It would be great to play again with Barcelona”
