Injuries of top players leave Juventus desperately short in defence

Juventus are being left desperately short of options in defence after the injuries of Leonardo Bonucci and Dani Alves. Both Juventus stars left the pitch during the Genoa clash yesterday with the Brazilian defender who paid the highest price as he was diagnosed with a fibula fracture and could remain out of action up to four months. Bonucci, on the other hand, will miss at least the next home clash against Atalanta.

Boncci and Alves, however, are not the only defenders to have picked up injuries over the last few weeks. Andrea Barzagli is set to remain out of action for the next two months with a shoulder injury and Giorgio Chiellini is still recovering from a muscular hassle. The solid rock Italian centre-back has already skipped seven games so far this season due to muscular problems.

Chiellini should be eligible to play next week’s game against Atalanta. He’s the only centre-back fit in Juventus’ squad at the moment alongside Daniele Rugani and Medhi Benatia who put down a disappointing performance (to say the least) against Genoa yesterday. Injuries of top players have left Juventus desperately short in defence and Allegri could use a four-man defence next week against Atalanta in order to rest at least one between Chiellini, Rugani and Benatia.
