Inter: Mancini breaks his silence - PART 2

In the second part of his in-depth interview with Corriere dello Sport, Roberto Mancini talks Totti, the Premier League, the Champions League and his future but first, his thoughts on Milan now being bought by Chinese investors; “The fans of Milan must have patience, a guarantee for them is the arrival of Marco Fassone, a great leader who I worked with at Inter. He’s got the expertise to construct a good group”.

Moving on to Francesco Totti and his last season as a professional, Mancini declared that; “A fantastic player that I regret never having been able to coach despite trying to sign him numerous times. It’s sad that the Olimpico Stadium is almost deserted as are many other grounds across Italy. In England I saw all the stadiums were mostly sold out in August”.

Continuing on the subject of the Premier League, Mancini gave his opinion as to who he thought would lift the title. He stated that; “I t will be a head to head between the two Manchester clubs. My former club (City) remains strongest on paper and I’m still proud to have been part of the rebuilding process there; Yaya Toure, David Silva, Aguero…On the other side there is Ibrahimovic of course and it will be an exciting dual but they must not forget about Chelsea. Conte has started very well. For Leicester it would a great season if they finished in the top six under Claudio Ranieri, are coaches are at the top of the tree at the moment and we must not forget about Ancelotti at Bayern”.

Moving on to his tip for this season’s Champions League, Mancini explained that; “It’s difficult to predict who will start as the clear favourite, Barcelona probably but when you get to the latter stages of the competition anything can happen”.

Finally, on to his own future, Mancini once more; “I’m not in any hurry to get back into work and I do not have a preference as to which country I work in. Would I like to one day coach the national team? I believe it’s the pinnacle for most managers, a great source of pride and the ultimate accolade”.
