Man Utd: Is Ferguson blocking Mourinho appointment?

Louis van Gaal reign at the Old Trafford seems to have come to an end. The Dutch manager failed to snatch a Champions League placement this season and could only finish fourth last term. The only way to save his two-year spell in Manchester is winning the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace tomorrow and it probably won’t be enough to deserve a confirmation for the 2016-17 campaign.

The last option for the Dutchman’s future at Manchester United is reported by this morning’s edition of The Sun. Van Gaal’s may be named as the Red Devils’ sporting director for one season, until his contract expires.

Man Utd: Is Ferguson blocking Mourinho appointment?

Man Utd could announce Mourinho’s appointment just after the FA Cup final. His contract is ready, but Ferguson has still doubts about the Special One being the right man to bring the club back to the top after the flops of the two managers Fergie had appointed after the end of his reign: David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

The former Red Devils boss is on two minds right now. On the one hand he is in desperate need of a top manager like Mourinho to rebuild a competitive and winning team. On the other hand, he fears that such an important figure like the Portuguese tactician would decrease his popularity in the club he’d been running from 1986 to 2013.

Fergie secretly hopes that Ryan Giggs will take over at the Old Trafford instead than Mourinho next season. The Welshman is a club’s living legend, he was appointed interim manager after Moyes’ sacking and is now van Gaal’s assistant manager.

A final decision will be taken after the FA Cup final, who will Fergie pick to become the new Manchester United boss?
