Juve, Inter target Gagliardini: 'I see myself in Pogba, but he's the best I've ever seen'

It is a little-kept secret that Italy is expecting big things from Atalanta’s lastest crop of talents. Andrea Conti, Mattia Caldara and Roberto Gagliardini are all playing leading roles as this year’s surprise package, Atalanta, climbs the ranks.

All three of them are being linked to big moves, with midfielder Gagliardini being linked to both Inter and Juventus.

This morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport (via StadioNews) went even further, interviewing Gagliardini and asking him whether he was the “White Pogba”, something Coach Gasperini said a few days ago.

His answer? “I see myself in him, but he’s far too good.

“He’s the most impressive player I have ever seen. I remember a one-on-one with [Daniele] Baselli on the wing, [Pogba] simply raised his arm and swatted Base away.

Having already made two assists and nabbed a starting role, the 22-year-old Gagliardini is having a ball this season, also earning a call-up to Italy’s friendly with Germany and qualifier against Liechtenstein.

Asked about Coach Gasperini, the 22-year-old came up with an entertaining answer: “he destroys us in training, but everything’s going fine!

“He was very brave to pick me. I remember in training before the Napoli game, he gave me a starting bib [an Italian tradition] and I thought: ‘No, he’s really going to…’. And he did”.
