Juventus, Man Utd face transfer blow as key target extends Real Madrid contract

Juventus and Manchester United are in danger of missing out on a key summer target as Real Madrid centre-back Pepe is set to sign a new contract with the Merengues.

According to reports from Spain, the Champions League winners have found agreement with the 33-year-old defender who is set to sign a new two-year contract to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2019.
Pepe’s Real Madrid contract is set to expire at the end of the season and both Juventus and Manchester United had been linked with offering the solid rock centre-back a two-year contract to sign him as a free agent at the end of the season.

Pepe’s Real Madrid contract talks had been put on hold as the Portuguese defender only wanted to sign a two-year contract extension, though the Spanish club were only open to offer a new one-year deal. The two parties, however, are believed to have found an agreement with the LaLiga giants that are expected to meet Pepe’s requests.

An official announcement regarding the player’s contract extension is expected in the next few days with Juventus and Manchester United that will have to be looking for new transfer targets to strengthen their defences.
