Latest: AC Milan chasing Real Madrid midfielder for January

AC Milan are going shopping in Europe again, and are interested in signing a Real Madrid outcast for January.

His name? Dani Ceballos, the former Real Betis star who moved to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, but has yet to become a starter despite his €16.5 million transfer fee.

Milan have struggled early in the season despite signing eleven players for over €200 million, having lost to Lazio, Sampdoria and Roma to fall to seventh place.

A lot more was expected of Vincenzo Montella and his charges, and of midfielders like Hakan Calhanoglu who have struggled to fit in so far.

Sport write that the 21-year-old Ceballos has been identified as a January target by Milan’s scouts, but things won’t be easy: he already has a huge 200 million release clause (typical with Real), and the Merengues believe in him. After all, it took a while for the likes of Isco and Casemiro to develop and break into the side, and Ceballos fits into this philosophy.

Ceballos has also shined in the little time he’s had, scoring a (decisive) brace against Alaves before the international break, in what has been his only Liga start so far.
