    “Little” Striker earns Big Win

“Little Pea,” the nickname of Man U’s Mexican striker Javier Hernandez, has been an impressive player since coming over to the Red Devils, even if he hasn’t been one of the most celebrated by fans. But with a late header against Everton to give Manchester United a 1-0 win, El Huelguista Mexicano may be the toast of the town for quite a while.

Man U is pushing hard for a record-breaking 19th title, and this victory over an extremely stubborn Everton teams put them one step closer, holding onto a strong nine-point lead with only four games left outside of their back-to-back Chelsea and Arsenal matches.

Javier was certainly not a fan favorite pick for an in-game hero. Moreover, Manchester United wasn’t exactly odds-on favorites to be this far out in front. Earlier in the season, every sports book from Leeds to London had Man U playing catch-up. But with inspired play from their footballers of late, the Red Devils are in prime position to make Englanders forget all about the royal wedding as they either celebrate United’s victory or curse their name.

Against Everton, United was tested throughout, with Javier’s first attempt being pushed away and Rooney’s efforts, while frenetic, coming up short. Luckily for Man U, Everton was offering little going forward in the way of offense. Their defense was stout, but it was clear that it was United’s game to win if anyone could get the slightest bit of space.

With the clock winding down and with missed opportunities by Fabio and other United leaders, six minutes to go in the match, Valencia deflected to the far post and Hernandez squeezed in a header from what seemed to be an improbable angle. Try as they might, Everton could not answer in the short time remaining and Man U inched ever closer to a title.

In the world of footy, players move around and fall at random much like a roulette wheel. But with the success the Red Devils are having this year, should they earn number 19, it seems logical that the Glazer’s would keep the squad intact at Old Trafford, and Little Pea may be among the long-time stars.
