Scouting Report: Liverpool in pole-position to land latest Argentine striking sensation

Liverpool have emerged as the front-runners in the race to land highly-rated Argentine striker Maxi Romero. The 18-year-old, who has shot to stardom at Velez Sarsfield is one of the country’s brightest young talents and has been monitored by several big name clubs from the Premier League.

Arsenal almost brought him to England back in 2015 but pulled out of the deal when the youngster picked up a cruciate ligament injury. According to World Football Index, it’s Liverpool that are now in the box seat. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has an impressive track record of nurturing young talent and South American football journalist Tom Robinson says that if he does head to Anfield then Liverpool fans will be in for a treat.

He explained that; “He’s a powerful, explosive centre forward who’s killed it at club youth level. His stats don’t jump off the page but he’s been in a pretty terrible Vélez side, mainly playing second fiddle to experienced Mariano Pavone. Pavone has just moved to Estudiantes, so hopefully that should open up some game time for Romero. He’s still only 18, so time will tell as to how much the injury has affected him.”
