Liverpool put their pursuit of Naby Keita on hold for 12 months

Liverpool’s quest to sign Guinea international midfielder Naby Keita looks to be over…for now. The Premier League club identified the 22-year-old RB Leipzig star as their primary summer target but after having two club record offers rejected by the Bundesliga outfit, boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly put plans to bring him to Anfield on hold for 12 months.

According to The Times, unless his current employers change their stance on the current situation in which they are adamant that the player will not be sold this summer, then Liverpool will wait until next summer when Keita is understood to have a release clause of £50M.

However, Leipzig sporting director Ralph Rangnick claims this is not the case. Earlier this month he was quoted as saying that; “There are no players in our squad who have an exit clause. I will repeat it one more time, we will not sell any of our key players. There are a lot of reports about there being a certain figure where we could be open to a sale, but they are all false."
The player is currently under contract until 2020.
