Maltese PL top scorer: 'I would like to move back to Italy'

Mario Fontanella is a 26-year-old striker from Naples, Italy. As many of his compatriots, he didn’t get the chance to do his job in his home country, so he emigrated. In Malta, he has become famous. In the last season, he has resulted the top scorer of the Maltese Premier League, and he leaded his team Floriana just one step away from the qualification to the Europa League.
Interviewed by calciomercato.com/en, the player said: “Now I am in Naples, enjoying my vacations, but I keep on training. The ritiro will start on July 1st, and I want to be ready. My future? I am very well in Malta, the club has been wonderful with me, but I am ambitious and I wouldn’t mind trying another experience. Where? Of course my dream would be moving back to Italy, possibly in the Serie B, but continuing abroad wouldn’t be a problem: considering my characteristics, I think that a technical and fast football as the one they play in Spain, would be perfect for me.”
We have then contacted Fontanella’s agent Salvatore Trunfio: “The club has an option for a second and a third season, so he is definitely a Floriana player. We must be grateful to the club: one year ago, when he was arriving from the Italian fourth division, they decided to give him confidence, it’s also thank to them if now he has many suitors. Where? We have talked with two clubs from Switzerland, one from Cyprus and also with a French team that has been just promoted to the Ligue 1; of course, we are also in talks with some Serie B clubs. However, he is a Floriana player; of course, the president Riccardo Gaucci is ready to evaluate those offers which could be interesting for both the player and the club, but we owe respect to Floriana and to the Maltese football”.
