Man City handed boost in hunt to land Benjamin Mendy

Manchester City have been handed a boost in their pursuit of their target Monaco defender Benjamin Mendy, local news outlet Manchester Evening News reports.

The reigning French league champions have now completed the transfer of Feyenoord left-back Terence Kongolo – meaning that the door has now swung open for Man City manager to come in and secure a deal for Mendy.

The Manchester club have seen wing-backs Pablo Zabaleta, Jesus Navas, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy all leave the club, with Mendy as a top priority in the summer transfer window.

Monaco have already had summer dealings with City this window, with their attacker Bernardo Silva moving to the Etihad for a fee reported as around £43.5m.
But it looks as if City manager Pep Guardiola dosent want to rest on his laurels, as he is planning a major squad overhaul, including that of 22-year-old Mendy, in order to improve on City’s underwhelming performance last season.
