Man City midfielder target set to sign contract extension with BVB

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are set to offer Julian Weigl a new contract to extend the Germany star’s stay at the club.

Weigl is said to be a top transfer target of Manchester City especially after the injury of Ilkay Gundogan who is set for a lengthy lay-off as he picked up a knee injury earlier this week.

According to reports from Germany, the two parties have already found agreement over a new contract and an official announcement is expected to be released in the next few hours. Weigl’s current deal with the Bundesliga giants expires in 2019, but the new deal is set to run until 2021.

Weigl is also going to get a pay rise, with the new salary set to be around €1.5 million-a-year, enough, to keep one of the most exciting prospects in Europe who was also voted as Bundesliga’s best young player last season.

His contract extension comes as a transfer blow for both Chelsea and Arsenal given that both Premier League giants have set sights on Weigl as they’re looking for some midfield reinforcement in the January window.
