Man United could be behind Manolas’ Zenit snub

Manchester United are long time admirers of Roma star Kostas Manolas who seemed on the verge of joining Zenit for € 35 million. The former Olympiakos star was due to have his medical yesterday morning but the 25-year-old didn’t show up for his medical in Rome and the his move to Russia could then collapse.

Several reports in Italy claim negotiations have been put on hold and Zenit could eventually refuse to sign Manolas.

The ‘official’ reason behind Manolas’ snub is economical. Sky Italia claims the player doesn’t want to be paid in Russian currency, but wants to receive his monthly salary in euro.

Il Messaggero, however, believe Manchester United or Bayern Munich could be behind the player’s refusal to have his medical with Zenit. Both clubs could be interested in signing the Greek defender with Chelsea that despite being long time admirers of Manolas would rather prefer to sign Bayern’s Boateng and that’s why the Blues have not been in touch with Roma over their talented defender of late, Sky Italia reports.
