Man Utd to offer Rooney as part of the deal to land in-demand Belgian striker

Manchester United are set to make Wayne Rooney part of any deal to bring Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford. Reports in The Express reveal that the Red Devils are in a two-way fight with Chelsea to land the 23-year-old hitman who rifled in 26 goals last season for the Toffees.

United boss Jose Mourinho sold the big Belgian to the Merseyside club during his return to Stamford Bridge in 2014 for £28M and now reports suggest that it will take around £100M to be reunited with the player.

Lukaku, who is a client of super-agent Mino Raiola, has cited that his desire to play Champions League football next season is behind his decision to leave Goodison Park which has set off a flurry of activity around the Premier League.

Never short of a word or two, Raiola appeared on talkSPORT this week, where he declared that; “In two years' time maybe £100million for a guy who makes (scores) 26 goals is a good deal. The market will be ruled by the people who buy so if there is a club that needs Lukaku and thinks he is worth £100m, then Everton are right (to ask for that fee)."

With United’s quest for Atletico Madrid frontman Antoine Griezmann now looking dead in the water after the Spanish club failed to overturn their summer transfer embargo, Lukaku, as well as Torino striker Andrea Belotti and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, have all moved up the pecking order.
