Manchester United monitoring highly-rated Anderlecht star

According to reports in The Daily Mail, Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Anderlecht’s defensive midfielder Leander Dendoncker. The 22-year-old caught the attention of some of Europe’s heavyweight clubs after some outstanding performances for the Belgian side last season. United boss Jose Mourinho got a first-hand look at the player when the Red Devils faced the Belgians in last season’s Europa League quarter-finals with Dendoncker getting on the scoresheet.

Mourinho is still believed to want a holding midfielder and with his pursuit of Radja Nainggolan (Roma), Eric Dier (Spurs) and Nemanja Matic (Chelsea) getting more complicated, the young Belgian international could be the perfect alternative for the Portuguese tactician.

Dendoncker joined Anderlecht as a 17-year-old and has four years left to run on his current deal at the club after he signed a new contract towards the end of last year. He’s been capped twice for his country.
