Manchester United: Adidas and Rooney hold the key to the arrival of James Rodriguez

According to reports from Spain, Manchester United have reached a “principal agreement” with Real Madrid star James Rodriguez. The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with the Red Devils after a disappointing campaign which saw him make just 13 starts under boss Zinedine Zidane.

Spanish portal Diario Madrista claims that Jose Mourinho’s men are in pole-position to sign him and that a verbal agreement has already been agreed with the Colombian stating that he wants to head to Old Trafford.

There are however, contractual issues that are currently preventing a deal being done with reports claiming that Adidas, who are James’s marketing supplier, demanding that he wears the number 10 shirt which is currently owned by Wayne Rooney. Should the club’s all-time record goalscorer depart, then it’s believed that that will pave the way for Rodriguez to complete his dream move.

Rooney for his part still has two more years left on his current deal at Old Trafford and seems determined to stay to try to win over Mourinho. The Portuguese tactician however, wants to off-load the former skipper with the player not figuring in his future plans.
