Marseille hold talks with Celtic over French striker, Arsenal target

Reports have emerged that Marseille and Celtic chiefs have been in discussions over the weekend about 21-year-old striking sensation Moussa Dembele. The French youngster scored 32 goals for the Glasgow giants last season after making a £500,000 move from Championship side Fulham last summer.

Some of England’s biggest clubs have been chasing down his signature; in January, it was reported that Celtic rejected a £40M offer from Chelsea as boss Brendan Rodgers stated that he would not be sold during the campaign in which the Hoops went through unbeaten.

Ahead of the new campaign however the situation looks to be different with Arsenal already being linked with a move. According to Sky Sports, the latest club to make contact are Marseille and it’s now understood that the French side met with their Scottish counterparts over the weekend when they travelled to Glasgow for a friendly against Rangers.

The chance to return to his homeland is one that could tempt Dembele to snub a move to North London in favour of the port side with Celtic reportedly looking for £20M from any potential suitors. Rodgers wants to hang on to his talented youngster but if a deal is to be done, it’s believed that a compromise may be struck which would leave Dembele in place until at least the end of the Champions League qualifying campaign which ends next month.
