Maurizio Sarri is lying to defend Higuain (and Napoli)

Gonzalo Higuain could not hide is disappointment when Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri replaced him in the 89th minute of Fiorentina-Napoli. He kick a water battle close to his side’s bench, after having given a ‘kick to the diet’ scoring the equalizer in the 7th minute.

The Argentinean hit-man was not satisfied in the Franchi night. He wanted to be even more decisive, but Ciprian Tatarusanu left him frustrated saving his attempt on goal in the second half.

Despite having scored his 25th goal in the league (27th in all competitions), Higuain looked nervous for the whole game yesterday. He argued with the referee, with his opponents and even with some of his teammates and he did not take well at all Sarri’s decision to replace him with one minute plus stoppage time still to be played.

When Manolo Gabbiadini came off the bench to replace the former Real Madrid star, Higuain looked at Sarri and kicked the water battle, but he calmed down as soon as he sat down on the bench.

Questioned about the striker’s reaction after the game, Maurizio Sarri tried to give his explanation.

“Hihuain was upset because he thought his disallowed goal in the second half was not off side”, the former Empoli tactician replied.

Probably, that’s not the true reason behind Higuain’s anger, but Sarri’s answer was the only one he could gave journalists. Everyone at  Napoli needs to keep their nerves right now. Serie A leaders Juventus are not so far away (only three points ahead) and the Azzurri desperately need to qualify for Champions League.

Keeping everyone calm is the only way to try to come back to victory against Chievo next Saturday.
