Monaco defender set to join Man City for £52m

Monaco wing-back Benjamin Mendy is set to join Manchester City in a record breaking £52m deal, with the France international set for a medical later this week, according to The Guardian.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola highlighted the wing-back positions as one of his side’s weaker spots, following a relatively disappointing 2016/17 campaign where the team finished 4th with no trophy wins.
Therefore, the Spaniard brought in one of his main targets to bolster the position last week, Kyle Walker – who was nabbed from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur for £50m. Now the former Barcelona boss is set to make it a tidy £100m spent on full-backs by bringing in highly-rated 23-year-old Mendy.

Mendy was subject to three failed bids from the Manchester club already – the latest was a fee of £44.5m but the Ligue 1 champions stated that they wanted a bid to at least match the bid made for Walker.
The deal looks to be finalised soon now, though, and it will see Mendy link up with City’s recent purchase of Bernardo Silva, who moved to the Etihad for £42m.
