Breaking: Chelsea agree £39.8M deal for Bakayoko

Chelsea have agreed a deal with Monaco for midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. The 22-year-old French international will arrive in England on Friday to undergo a medical before completing his move. An initial fee of £39.8M has been agreed and there will be add-ons to this figure.

Speculation that an agreement had been reached started to circulate on Wednesday and after the player’s brother, Abdoulaye, hinted on Snapchat that his sibling was heading to Stamford Bridge, the news has finally broken that Bakayoko is the Premier League champions latest acquisition.

He is expected to line-up in midfield alongside fellow countryman N’Golo Kante which could now spell the end of Serbian international Nemanja Matic’s time at the Bridge. The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and now these negotiations could be accelerated in the coming days.

Bakayoko will put pen to paper on a five-year-deal as boss Antonio Conte makes his second big signing of the summer following the arrival of German defender Antonio Rudiger.
