Mourinho claims Ibrahimovic could make a sensational return to Man Utd

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has stated that Swedish superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic could make a dramatic return to Old Trafford. The 35-year-old, who bagged 28 goals for the Red Devils last term, had his season ended prematurely by a serious knee injury in April and that looked to be the end of his time in the Premier League.

With doctors explaining that he could be out of action until January 2018, United decided not to take up their option of a one-year extension to his current deal but allowed the player to undergo his rehabilitation at their Carrington training complex. Ibra still lives in Manchester and the Daily Star report this morning that the Portuguese tactician has left the door open to a possible return.

Speaking from the US ahead of the start of their pre-season tour, Mourinho stated that; “t’s possible. It’s open. We wanted to be honest and open for him to make a decision. There was not a new contract. There has been a time for people to think, feel and decide and from his family point of view he wanted to play football at the highest level.”

“He didn’t want to hide behind such an amazing injury. He wasn’t happy with the way he finished the season, not playing. He’s challenged himself to keep playing at highest level. We’ve opened the door for him to recover with us and our people. At the same time, let’s make a decision that will make us all happy and if that’s for him to stay and us to wait until December, then maybe we will wait for such a good player.”

“We are speaking and changing ideas. The important thing is the final decision being the best one for the club.”
