Napoli considers replacements for Liverpool and Chelsea target as new contract talks stall

There is still no agreement between Napoli and Faouzi Ghoulam over the contract extension of the Algeria International.

The contract of Ghoulam will expire at the end of the season and his agent Jorge Mendes is not willing to pen a new deal unless a low release clause is included in his client’s new contract.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has left the door open to Ghoulam’s departure claiming that: “If he [Ghoulam] wants a release clause I am going to decide it, not him. If he wants a very low release clause it means that he is fooling me out of me and I don’t want it. If we don’t find an agreement he can leave.”

As of today, there is no shadow of optimism about Ghoulam’s contract extension with Napoli. Liverpool and Chelsea could make a move to sign the talented 26-year-old given that both Premier League giants are being linked with welcoming the player’s services.

According to Naples-based Radio CRC the partenopei would consider a summer move for Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo should they fail to persuare Ghoulam to sign a new deal.
