New name of Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium revealed

Madrid based teams Real and Atletico will play in a new stadium very soon.

The Merengues’ president Florentino Perez has been allowed to start refurbishment works for the Santiago Bernabeu, whilst the Colchoneros will move to the new 68.000 seats Olympic stadium of Madrid from the beginning of the next campaign.

Perez is not going to expand the Santiago Bernabeu’s capacity (81.044 seats), but the new stadium will have a new retractable roof and the external part will be covered by lights that could cast images, not to mention that the club’s museum will also be refurbished.

Florentino Perez has also revealed the new name of the Santiago Bernabeu that will be called “IPIC Bernabeu or Cepsa Bernabeu” as refurbishment works will be financed by Abu Dhabi based company IPIC which is controlled by CEPSA.

Update works will cost around € 400 million, but the Real Madrid’s new stadium will become the most profitable one in Europe, leapfrogging Arsenal’s Emirates, after its renewal.
