Real star Bale set to skip four months after tendon surgery

It’s horrible news indeed: Real Madrid star Gareth Bale is set to skip four months after being operated in London today.

Bale sustained what doctors described as a 'traumatic dislocation of the peroneal tendons' after the Merengues’ 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon last week, and won’t be back until the Spring.

It’s a big knock for the Wales internationa because, if anything, it stops him in his tracks, just as he was getting back to form. Criticized by some fans for not providing enough of an impact this season, the former Spurs star had bounced back by scoring against Eibar, Leganes and Legia Warsaw, and providing some spectacular performances (last week’s Derby, where he added an assist in a 3-0 win) along the way.

If there’s a silver lining for the Men of Harlech, it’s that he’s unlikely to miss any competitive games, the next World Cup qualifier being in the summer. Bale is only likely to skip next March’s friendly with Ireland.
