Rejected by Italy, Lippi heading back to China

Italian coaching legend Marcelo Lippi is set to make a managerial comeback but it’s not what many people would expect. Having been close to accepting a role back with the Italy national team, his dream was shattered when the FIGC (Italian football association) vetoed any possible move due to his son’s role as an agent. Now the 68-year-old could be heading back to the Far-East to continue his career on the bench.

The club in question is Chinese Super-League outfit Guangzhou Evergrande; the same club that Lippi led to three consecutive league titles, a national cup and an Asian Champions League before he left in 2014. Current boss Felipe Scolari has already been told he will not be having his contract renewed and contact has already been made with Lippi over a possible return.
