Roma can announce themselves at the San Siro tomorrow

When they step onto the San Siro tomorrow night, Roma has the rare opportunity to announce themselves as a legitimate Serie A contender. Going up against an AC Milan team seemingly on the verge of peril, the Giallorossi have no choice but to bring three points back to the Eternal City.

Both clubs are tied for fifth place with 12 points (Roma has played one less match). However, the situations surrounding both clubs headed into the clash could not be different. Around the San Siro, rumors regarding manager Vincenzo Montella’s future grow louder with each passing day.

After spending a whopping €175 million on new players over the summer, the Rossoneri have stumbled at the beginning the of season with a pair of losses to Lazio and, more shockingly, Sampdoria. Additionally, in European competition, they have been less than convincing, as it took a 90+4 minute winner to defeat lowly Rijeka at home on Thursday.

For Roma, they seem to be hitting their stride just as the complexity of their schedule begins to heat up. They’ve won their last four matches after drawing Atletico Madrid at home in Champions League. Their only loss came against Inter Milan, a match in which they held the lead in the second half.

Despite losing two of their best players (Salah & Rudiger) and manager (Spalletti), Roma have an outside chance of competing for the Scudetto this season. However, there are extremely strong teams in their way, but they’re catching one of them at the right time.

It’s likely that Milan’s struggles can be attributed to unfamiliarity between all the new additions. Should the team hit their stride later in season, based on the talent they have, they could be one of the strongest teams in Italy. Three points at the San Siro are available for Roma. Now it’s up to the players to take them.
