Roma: contact made with Sassuolo over Defrel
According to Corriere dello Sport, new Roma Sporting Director Frederic Massara has made contact with Sassuolo over French striker Gregoire Defrel. The giallorossi are believed to be gambling on the fact that the neroverdi will be eliminated from the Europa League and will be looking to sell one of their prize assets.
Roma will also lose Mo Salah to the African Cup of Nations in January and are scouring the continent to try to find an adequate replacement.
The 25-year-old joined Sassuolo in 2015 from Serie B side Cesena and has scored 10 goals in 35 appearances for the club. Recent reports have also linked the capital club with Papu Gomez of Atalanta and the player in an interview earlier today did not rule out the fact that he could leave the Bergamo club if the right offer becomes available. It looks set to be a tense few months for both clubs as they look to keep hold of their star players.
