ROMANO EXCLUSIVE Juventus to try last-minute signing of Kovacic, Gustavo

Juventus are still on the lookout for a midfielder, but won’t go crazy, either.

As Giuseppe Marotta confirmed recently: “We won’t buy for the sake of it, but only if we find a cherry to put atop our midfield”.

The failure to sign Nemanja Matic has been followed up by Blaise Matuidi’s likely renewal with PSG… and Mateo Kovacic being offered to the Bianconeri.

Our sources tell us that the Croatian has been offered by his agents. The two sides have already met, and Kovacic has already expressed his wish to move back to Italy and play for Juventus. Kept out of the Galacticos’ midfield, Kovacic knows that Fabio Paratici has been a big fan of his since his Dinamo days, but also that Real Madrid won’t let him go easily.

In all likelihood, the price tag is in the region of €25-30 million, and Real have always wanted to sell the Croatian, not give him away on loan.

The Bianconeri will also hope to snag Luiz Gustavo in the last days of the window, again thinking that his €25m price tag is excessive for someone who is less box-to-box, and more of a central midfielder. Moreover, he was born in 1987. Then again, Gustavo has already agreed to personal terms with Juventus. But will Wolfsburg?
