Ronaldo charged with four seperate counts of tax evasion

Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with defrauding Spanish authorities of £13M in unpaid tax. The Sun reports that the 32-year-old has been accused of four separate acts from 2011 to 2014. CR7 has become the latest high-profile player to be hit with charges following on from Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Messi received a 21-month jail term after he was found guilty of tax fraud but the Argentine star is unlikely to face time behind bars due to Spanish law which states that any sentence under two years can be suspended.

His Barcelona team-mate Neymar looks likely to stand trial after allegations surrounding his move to the Camp Nou from Santos back in 2013. Another Barca player, Javier Mascherano was also sentenced to 12 months in prison but like Messi, was spared jail time.

It’s unlikely that these latest charges against Ronaldo will cost him the 2017 Ballon d’Or; The Portugal star is odds on with the bookmakers to land his fifth crown after another devastating campaign for Real Madrid.
