Italy are certainly in the run for the Best Ultras in the World competition ©, if the prize happens to be a 7.000 hour community service shift.

Serie A’s latest claim to fame comes from Genoa, a city whose teams are a bit of a mess right now. Whilst Genoa lost to Carpi two weeks ago, Sampdoria have lost three on the spin since new manager Vincenzo Montella replaced Walter Zenga.

Owner Massimo Ferrero has taken a Top 10 team and turned it into a hot mess, with fans in uproar over the signing of Zenga and the 4-0 home loss to Vojvodina before the Serie A season could even get underway.

To add insult to injury, Sampdoria’s loss at the weekend saw the Blucerchiati ultras lose their rag again, only this time they decided to confront the players about it. According to Tuttosport, one even slapped midfield talisman and Azzurro regular Roberto Soriano.

Soriano just happens to be one the club’s most prized assets, and was very close indeed to leaving in the summer, with Napoli and Milan leading the race. Could this episode finally push him over the brink?

In the meantime, Coach Montella has the team on a punishment ritiro, with next Monday's trip to Lazio one that could see both him and Stefano Pioli in big trouble if they come away with nothing.
