Sarri needs to make some changes to boost Napoli's title hopes

Twelve games left in Serie A and everything can still happen in the Scudetto race, though the upcoming week end action  could say a lot about the future of the league as table leaders Juventus will meet Inter at the J Stadium on Sunday evening, while second-ranked Napoli will travel to Florence to face Fiorentina with La Viola that sits 3rd in Serie A.

Both Napoli and Fiorentina were eliminated from Europa League last Thursday. The Partenopei drew 1-1 at the San Paolo against La Liga side Villareal, the Tuscans were trashed 3-0 at White Hart Lane against Tottenham.

Napoli are without a win in the last three games and a draw or – even worse – a defeat against La Viola would only increase the skepticism around the team, not to mention that a win would allow Paulo Sousa to jump only two points behind Maurizio Sarri in the Serie A table.

The former Empoli tactician needs to make some changes just like he did at the beginning of the season when he switched the team from 4-3-1-2 to 4-3-3.

Unlikely Allegri at Juve, Sarri can’t rely on quality replacements who can hold a candle to usual starters and opponents seem to have quite understand how to nullify threats coming from the devastating attacking trio Insigne-Higuain-Callejon.

In the next game against Fiorentina, Sarri could add a second striker to play close to Gonzalo Higuain or, alternatively, could play the wingbacks even wider than usual to open spaces in the middle of the pitch. Twelve games are still a lot, but on Monday night we could know more about the future of this Serie A campaign.
