Schalke troll Juventus over injured star

Benedikt Howdes’ life in Torino has gotten off to a very difficult start as he remains sidelined due to injuries. Two muscular injuries have kept the German international from making his debut with the Bianconeri. Now his club, Schalke has added insult to injury for Juventus.

Schalke 04, who have loaned their defender to the Italian side, have taken note of his injuries and responded controversially. Sporting director Christian Heidel has offered to take charge of Howdes’ recovery. “If Benedikt wants, we offer ourselves to cure him from his injury.” Many see the comment as an insult to Juventus’ training staff.

The Germans are clearly concerned that a prolonged absence by Howdes will jeopardize their €13 million transaction with Juventus. After both the club and player agreed to a separation, his return to his native Germany has been ruled out. Now, with the injury, his future with both clubs is very much a question that must be addressed.

After selling world-class defender Leonardo Bonucci to Milan, Juventus is hoping Howdes can prove to be a solid replacement.
